  • Nasson Bike Center is looking for volunteers! The Nasson Bike Center is a resource for local youth looking for a bike, fix a bike, needing some community service time, or wanting to learn some mechanical and problem solving skills. We are looking for volunteers to mentor our kids as they rebuild bikes making them safe and reliable. We are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 to 5:00 year round. There is no requirement that the volunteer participate a certain number of hours. It is helpful that they participate on a regular schedule. Read more.

The BACKPACK program was established to provide weekend meals for local students that could use a little help when school lunches are not provided.

Funds raised in the tournament stay in the Sanford/Springvale community. Thanks to the work of many, the BACKPACK program has been a success in our area, but there remains a growing need for assistance to deserving students.

Mark your calendars for a very worthwhile cause!

Stuff the Bus Distribution 2016 @ Curtis Lake Church
Aug 20 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Hello friends of Stuff the Bus!

IMG_3270

As the school year is winding down, it’s time for Stuff the Bus to kick into high gear! Last year I am proud to announce that we served 2600 low-income school aged children, 39 teachers and 21 military families!  I am deeply grateful to all those who take part in some way to make this amazing event possible!

This will be the 8th year for Stuff the Bus. Please reply if you plan to contribute or volunteer in some way.

Our distribution event will take place on August 20th from 9 am to Noon at Curtis Lake Church, by appointment. I would like to personally thank them for allowing me to use their wonderful building to hold my event. They also provide super awesome volunteers that help to make this a blessed event for our youth in need.

We can also use volunteers for our Bus Dates.  We will be collecting school supplies on Aug. 6th, 12th, and 13th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Sanford Walmart.

Registration for families who need assistance opens July 1st.

Blue Christmas-Hope During the Christmas Season @ Crossroads Church
Dec 21 @ 6:30 pm

Blue Christmas – Hope During the Christmas Season

When: Wednesday, December 21st; 6:30 PM

Where: Crossroads United Methodist Church;  16 Grammar Road; Sanford, Maine.

Feeling blue? An ever increasing number of churches are offering a Service of Hope / Longest Night (the Winter Solstice) / Blue Christmas service offering hope through the sharing of the Christmas story, carols and communion. Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with illness, and a number of other human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people. The service’s focus is on the joy and hope Christ offers and provides a sense of calm and peace during the busy and sometimes difficult Christmas season.

The church will extend an invitation to join in a time of prayer, readings, reflection, and choral music and carols reminding us that God’s presence is for all. God’s light can shine in the darkness, even and especially near the longest night of the year. All persons of any (or no) church affiliation are welcome.

For questions or directions, contact Crossroads UMC at (207) 324-4750 or (207) 351-5410.
