Free Pre-K Program!

Sanford School Department Assistant Superintendent Matt Nelson announces the expansion of a Pre-K Program in Sanford that will start September 7, 2017. Two half day programs will be held at Sanford High School; a full day program, offered in collaboration with York County Community Action Corporation, will be located at the Head Start facility on Emery Street.

Sanford School Department is pleased to bring this expanded Pre-K Program to Sanford. The Pre-K experience is for children living in Sanford and Springvale who turn four by October 15, 2017. Programs will run Monday through Friday at no cost to families. Transportation will not be provided.

Children will participate in age appropriate learning experiences that promote school readiness and support development. The programs will focus on literacy, numeracy and math skills, creativity, health and nutrition and social and emotional development.

There are three program options. Option 1 is a 2.5 hour morning program at Sanford High School with no income eligibility requirement. Option 2 is a 2.5 hour afternoon program at Sanford High School with no income eligibility requirement. Option 3 is a 6 hour full day program at the Head Start facility on Emery Street; eligibility will be based on income.

Space is limited. For more information and to access an application, go to the Sanford School Department website (www.sanford.org ) and click on the Pre-K link.

Nelson stated “A successful early learning experience provides the best foundation for our youngest students’ educational careers. I am confident that the expansion of our pre-K program will have both immediate and long term positive effects on our students.”
