Dementia Conversations: A Program for Families @ Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library
Dec 5 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Mark Pechenik, Director of Community Outreach with the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, returns to Goodall library on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6:00pm to present the program “Dementia Conversations”.

This program is for families and individuals coping with Alzheimer’s disease or the beginning stages of dementia.

Overview:

When someone is showing signs of dementia, it’s time to talk. Often, conversations with family about changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable. This program provides tips for breaking the ice with family members so you can address some of the most common issues that are difficult to discuss: going to the doctor for a diagnosis or medical treatment, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans for future care.

Center for Grieving Children – Sanford @ Center for Grieving Children
Jan 17 @ 4:00 pm

For more than 30 years, the Center for Grieving Children has been an oasis of loving support for children, teens, young adults, and others experiencing loss and grief. The services of the Center are free, and made possible because of trained, dedicated volunteers, and community support.

Each week, trained volunteers give four hours of time to facilitate the groups. Supervised and supported by professional staff and mental health consultants, facilitators use art, music, movement, play, and discussion to help participants express feelings, share experiences and give and get support from each other.

Learn more about becoming a part of our healing community by attending one of our monthly one hour Volunteer Orientations. FMI and to register, contact Beth Quinlan at beth@cgcmaine.org or call 207-775-5216.

5th Annual Chocolate Benefit Spectacular @ Nasson Community Center
Feb 3 @ 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm

 Chocolate Benefit Spectacular!

Fifth annual chocolate tasting event to benefit the

Sanford Backpack Program

When:  February 3, 2018

Time:  6:00 to 9:30 PM

Where:  Nasson Community Center; Springvale, ME

The Sanford Backpack Program, an initiative of Strategies for a Stronger Sanford, partners with the Sanford School District to prove children who are food insecure with backpacks filled with nutritionally dense food. We serve about 200 children (and their families) in grades K through 12 and send over 100,000 individual meals home with Sanford children.

To help sustain the program, we are currently planning our FIFTH annual Chocolate Benefit Spectacular, on Sat. Feb. 3, 2018. This fun community-wide event will include chocolatiers from local restaurants, bakeries, and community members who will provide samples of chocolate treats to over 250 attendees.

We are looking for event sponsors! The 2017 Chocolate Benefit was a huge success and raised almost $20,000 for our program. The Sanford Backpack Program needs your help to make this happen again!

FMI:  visit this page, or contact Ayn Hanselmann at 207-206-2294 or backpacks@strongersanford.org.
